Sneaker enthusiasts can add yet another new asset to their collection, although this time to their toy closet, not their shoe closet. Lego is releasing a buildable brick version of the Adidas Superstar sneaker, complete with laces and a shoebox.

Lego's designers have certainly done justice to the original sneaker's iconic look, replicating the shoe's shell-shaped toe and serrated three stripes. If successfully constructed, the replica measures 4.7" H x 10.6" W. Lego is also selling the set with a display stand, helping to cement the toy's market positioning as a collectible.

The announcement comes a week after the company introduced a 2,079-piece vintage model typewriter. Once a fixture in nearly every office across the globe, the trusty typewriter is now all but extinct.

The letter keys move like those of traditional machines and paper can be fed into a platen roller.

This archival toy is complete with moving keys and a carriage. Designed to mirror the method of a classic typewriter, the set features a center typebar that rises when a key is pressed. This links to the carriage, which moves across as you type. There is also a platen roller, into which real paper can be fed.

The idea for this concept was submitted to the Lego Ideas platform by British Lego fan Steve Guinness. In a press release from Lego, Guinness commented: "I wanted to create something totally different from anything that Lego has ever done before and showcase that you really can make anything out of Lego. I hope it will bring nostalgia to adult fans like me, and wonder and curiosity to younger fans who might not have ever seen a real typewriter!" The target market for the typewriter, which is said to retail at $199.99, is adult Lego builders.

Vice-president of global marketing at Lego, Federico Begher, stated in the release: "For many, the escape from the connected world to the simplicity of the typewriter is a similar experience to the mindful process of building with Lego bricks. Here, we have a Lego set that combines these two worlds seamlessly and like its real-life counterparts, is something Lego fans will be proud to display in their homes."
